Military Life

Through the encouragement of a friend, I thought I'd start a blog and it seemed fitting to start it today...

In the last few years, I've came across many people who think when you choose to marry a person that is career military, that you should somehow know ahead of time just exactly what that entails. I often hear "well, you had to know what you were getting yourself into"..."this is something you signed up for." I'd just like to say that those remarks are one of ignorance and simply not said to a person that you hopefully care about. Not to mention that when you are in love with someone and you choose them as your partner, it doesn't come with stipulations such as "first, what's your career because I have to make sure it fits into my future life schedule."

Yes, my sodapop (that's what I call my dad) was a career navy man and my 3 brothers are all in the military (Coast Guard, Navy & Army). I don't tell my sodapop and brothers enough how proud and thankful I am to have them as my family. I love you guys so much! Even with growing up as a Navy-brat, its quite different to have your very best friend, your confidant, your daughter's daddy, the one that keeps you grounded, the one that is your BETTER HALF...yes my HUSBAND...in the military. I am undeniably proud of my husband! He is the best person I know and he is absolutely phenomenal at his job. In case you didn't know, he is a Blackhawk helicopter pilot. It might sound like I'm bragging about him, but he is definitely brag-worthy and I can't help but think it's sexy to be married to pilot :)

Tonight my heart is heavy and there are no words to describe the way you miss your spouse when they gone. You forget the simple luxury of seeing them smile at you, how their laughter warms your soul to the core, the way it feels to cook for them, the sound of them breathing, the way they smell, how their hand always seems to finds yours and makes your heart skip a beat, getting to watch stupid shows and add your own personalized commentary, riding in the car together and it be completely silent and you feel so at peace, getting frustrated at the little things and then looking at each other and knowing all that petty crap means NOTHING, sleeping next to one another, seeing your husband and daughter laugh and play together, getting to say "I love you" any time of the day, unlimited kisses...the blessings just go on and on. The military wife cries tears of happiness and pride, pain and loneliness...

I find myself not wanting to dwell in the reality of a deployment. Like most military wives, we attempt to fill the day with as many tasks as possible but when night falls, the truth always sets in. There are of course some nights better than others and unfortunately, tonight is one where I'd give anything to have my soul-mate next to me.
